As an expectant mother, the idea of exercising during pregnancy may seem daunting. However, it is important to remember that moderate exercise can have numerous benefits for both you and your baby. Pregnant women may choose to pause or continue their gym routine depending on how they feel.

Doctors recommend moderate exercise during pregnancy to help control weight gain and potentially aid in delivery. Monitor heart rate during exercise in 1st trimester for safety. For safety purposes, it is advisable to maintain a consistent heart rate and do the talk test during your workout. Doctors suggest a pace where it is challenging to talk, but still possible.

It’s important to stick to familiar exercises during pregnancy and make adjustments as you progress. You may need to switch from jogging to walking and avoid floor exercises after 14 weeks.

If you did not have an exercise routine before pregnancy, walking is an excellent way to stay active. Walking for thirty minutes three times a week is safe for most pregnant women. Doctors recommend continuing to walk throughout all three trimesters, although the pace may slow down in the third trimester. Walking can even bring on labor, making it a great exercise choice leading up to delivery.

Pregnant women no longer have to avoid movement for the entire nine months. While it’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, being inactive is not a valid excuse. Exercising while pregnant is beneficial for both you and your baby. It can increase energy levels and prepare you for labor and delivery. Remember to prioritize moderation and safety when establishing a routine.
